Personal Faith and Social Action

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor, He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and to interview the blind, to set at liberty to the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord. ” from Lucas :18-19.
The letterhead of our church states “Personal Faith and Social Action.” The other day two sisters from the Rhode Island Conference visited our church to participate in a Conference sponsored focus group. After the meeting they said “for a small church you are very involved in the mission of God.” We believe that the Church and its members should be involved in the action (actualization) and mission to the community. These two women were astounded that we participate in a rotation of a Soup Kitchen day (founded 23 years ago with another church), that we have a committee visiting the sick and those in crisis every Sunday, a group of ladies who meet in homes for fellowship, yard sales to sell items at affordable prices while also sharing with people (and also provide information about the Church and the Gospel). The ladies were also thrilled to learn that two church members dedicated time this year to mentor and recognize young college students. Our two conference sisters left the church very happy armored great news for their report. Thanks to our brothers and sisters of the church. I believe we are not only renewing the work of Jesus, but we are also striving to always be authentic (authenticity), transparent, and responsible (accountable) to the work of Jesus Christ. Someday, I too would like to hear about the “Personal Faith and Social Action” that takes place in your ministry. God Bless You.
Prayer: Omnipotent God, put the Spirit of mission, commitment, and service in our hearts and minds and then renew it according to your will. Amen.
Fe Personal y Acción Social Julio Filomeno
“El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, por cuanto me ha ungido para dar buenas nuevas a los pobres; Me ha enviado a sanar a los quebrantados de corazón; A pregonar libertad a los cautivos, y visitar a los ciegos; a poner en libertad a los oprimidos; a predicar el año agradable del Señor.” De Lucas 4:18-19
El membrete de nuestra iglesia dice “Fe Personal y Acción Social.” El otro día dos hermanas de la conferencia de Rhode Island vinieron a nuestra iglesia para participar en un grupo de enfoque que está auspiciando la conferencia dentro delas iglesias. Después de la reunión ellas dijeron “para una iglesia pequeña ustedes si están muy envueltos en la misión de Dios.” Y así creemos que la Iglesia y sus miembros deben estar envueltos en la acción (actualización) y misión hacia la comunidad. Al ellas ver que participamos en una rotación de un comedor para personas necesitadas (que fundamos con otra iglesia hace 23 años), que tenemos un comité que visita los enfermos y personas en crisis cada domingo, un grupo de damas que se reúnen en casas para la confraternidad, , y que se hacen ventas de garaje para vender a precios cómodos donde a la misma vez compartimos con las personas (y también le damos información de la Iglesia y el evangelio, se quedaron asombradas. También estuvieron felices al ellas ver que dos miembros de la iglesia se dedicaron este año a ser mentores y dar reconocimiento a jóvenes que van a la Universidad . Al ver todo esto y varias otras cosas las dos hermanas salieron muy contentas con la información que pudieron obtener para su reporte. Y gracias a los hermanos(as) pienso que no solo estamos actualizando el trabajo de Jesús sino también tratamos de siempre ser auténticos, transparentes, y responsables con la obra de Jesucristo. También algún día me gustaría oír de la “Fe Personal y Acción Social” que se llevaba a cabo en su ministerio. Que Dios les guarde.
Oración: Omnipotente Dios pon el Espíritu de Misión, compromiso y servicio en nuestros corazones y mentes para luego actualizarlo conforme a tu voluntad. Amén.
