Preparing for a meal … Preparandonos para la Cena

Hoy leemos Luke 22:7-13: 

(MSG): The Day of Unleavened Bread came, the day the Passover lamb was butchered. Jesus sent Peter and John off, saying, “Go prepare the Passover for us so we can eat it together.”  They said, “Where do you want us to do this?” He said, “Keep your eyes open as you enter the city. A man carrying a water jug will meet you. Follow him home. Then speak with the owner of the house: The Teacher wants to know, ‘Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?’ He will show you a spacious second-story room, swept and ready. Prepare the meal there.” They left, found everything just as he told them, and prepared the Passover meal.

A group of our church leaders met to discuss the meaning of Ash Wednesday. We indicated that we had no furniture in our living room – we are remodeling the house. To our joy one of the leaders stated that ” we will sit on the floor like good disciples ” Ten adults and 2 children = 12 in total.  We decided that during the next 40 days we will devote time to grow spiritually, to prepare for our celebration of Good Friday and Resurrection Day.  During the next 40 days, I will share my devotional reading , ” 24 hours that changed the world ” by Adam Hamilton. This is a series of reflections about the last 24 hours (last day ) of Jesus before his crucifixion .

Day 1: Preparing for a meal

Interesting, when we invite someone for dinner, we have to find a place to eat , go to the supermarket to buy the ingredients , someone has to cook , someone has to serve , others has to scrub , someone has to offer their home. Like the disciples in this story, the participants of last night’s Bible study are not identified by name or for what they did or did not do. Could you be part of a celebration were your name is not mention?  Jesus just wanted to eat your last meal around his friends, which by the way included a traitor and a liar. This tells me that each of us has an important role in the Lord’s table.

“Lord, I just want to serve and be use in whatever You feel its necessary. No need to be recognized for what I do. Help me set the table for those you have invited to your dinner!”

(DHH): Llegó el día de la fiesta en que se comía el pan sin levadura, cuando se sacrificaba el cordero de Pascua. Jesús envió a Pedro y a Juan, diciendo: —Vayan a prepararnos la cena de Pascua. Ellos le preguntaron: —¿Dónde quieres que la preparemos? Jesús les contestó: —Cuando entren ustedes en la ciudad, encontrarán a un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua. Síganlo hasta la casa donde entre, y digan al dueño de la casa: “El Maestro pregunta: ¿Cuál es el cuarto donde voy a comer con mis discípulos la cena de Pascua?” Él les mostrará en el piso alto un cuarto grande y arreglado para la cena. Preparen allí lo necesario. Ellos fueron y lo encontraron todo como Jesús se lo había dicho, y prepararon la cena de Pascua.

 Un grupo de lideres de nuestra iglesia nos reunimos para dialogar  sobre el significado del Miercoles de Ceniza.  Les indicamos que no teniamos muebles en nuestra sala – estamos remodelando la casa.  Para nuestra alegria uno de los lideres indico que “nos sentamos en el piso como buenos discipulos” Diez adultos y 2 niños =12; tod@s sentad@s en el piso.  Decidimos que durante estos 40 días dedicaremos tiempo a crecer espiritualmente, a prepararnos para nuestra celebracion del Viernes Santo y el Dia de Resurrección.   Los proximos 40 dias, compartiré mi lectura devocional, “24 hours that changed the world” de Adam Hamilton.  Esta es una serie de reflecciones acerca de las ultimas 24 horas (su ultimo dia) de Jesus antes de su crucificcion.

Dia 1:  Preparandonos para una comida

Que interesante, como parte de esa cena, habia que encontrar un lugar donde comer, ir al supermercado a comprar los ingredientes necesarios, alguien tiene que cocinar, alguien tiene que servir, otr@s tienen que fregar, alguien ofrecio su hogar.  Como los discipulos en esta historia, ningun@ de los participantes del estudio biblico de anoche demandaron que su nombre sea mencionado.  Podrias tu ser parte de la celebracion y no ser mencionad@ o necesitas que tu nombre sea escrito y conocido por tod@s.  Jesus solo queria comer su ultima cena alrededor de sus amigos, que incluyo un traidor y un mentiroso.  Esto me dice que cada uno de nosotr@s -con nuestros defectos – tenemos parte en la mesa del Señor.

“Yo quiero servir, quiero ser usada en lo que tu mi Señor creas necesario. No tengo que ser reconocida por lo que hago.  Ayudame a preparar la mesa para aquellos que Tu has invitado a cenar contigo.”
