Abide – Permanece

John 15:5, 8-15

 (MSG):“I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you’re joined with me and I with you, the relation intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. Separated, you can’t produce a thing. This is how my Father shows who he is—when you produce grapes, when you mature as my disciples.  “I’ve told you these things for a purpose: that my joy might be your joy, and your joy wholly mature. This is my command: Love one another the way I loved you. This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends. You are my friends when you do the things I command you. I’m no longer calling you servants because servants don’t understand what their master is thinking and planning. No, I’ve named you friends because I’ve let you in on everything I’ve heard from the Father.

 In this reflection Hamilton says that in order to remain disciples “we are to remain connected to Jesus even if we cannot physically see him.  We are to draw strength and spiritual nourishment from our relationship with him. We are to do this thorough prayer, meditation, worship, and the study of his life and teachings as found in the Scripture and through talking about him with others… remain connected to the Vine, pursuing practices that help us abide [accept, act in accordance with] in Christ, we will bear fruit – not just praying, reading the Bible, worshiping and giving, but demonstrating our love for others through our actions”

 Señor, help us remain in YOU!

  (DHH): »Yo soy la vid, y ustedes son las ramas. El que permanece unido a mí, y yo unido a él, da mucho fruto; pues sin mí no pueden ustedes hacer nada. En esto se muestra la gloria de mi Padre, en que den mucho fruto y lleguen así a ser verdaderos discípulos míos. Yo los amo a ustedes como el Padre me ama a mí; permanezcan, pues, en el amor que les tengo. Si obedecen mis mandamientos, permanecerán en mi amor, así como yo obedezco los mandamientos de mi Padre y permanezco en su amor.  »Les hablo así para que se alegren conmigo y su alegría sea completa.  Mi mandamiento es este: Que se amen unos a otros como yo los he amado a ustedes. El amor más grande que uno puede tener es dar su vida por sus amigos.

En esta reflexión Hamilton dice que para seguir siendo discípulos “tenemos que estar connectados a Jesús, incluso si no podemos verle físicamente. Tenemos que sacar fuerza y alimento espiritual de nuestra relación con él. Debemos orar profundamente, meditar,  adorar y el estudiar su vida y las enseñanzas que se encuentran en las Escrituras y por medio de hablar de él con los demás … permanecer conectados a la Vid, la aplicación de prácticas que nos ayudan a permanecer [aceptar, actuar en conformidad con] en Cristo, vamos a dar sus frutos – no sólo orar, leer la Biblia, adorar y dar, pero demostrar nuestro amor por los demás a través de nuestras acciones “
