Mark 14:63-64
“The Chief Priest lost his temper. Ripping his clothes, he yelled, “Did you hear that? After that do we need witnesses? You heard the blasphemy. Are you going to stand for it?” They condemned him, one and all. The sentence: death.”
Hamilton indicated that “Joseph and Nicodemus were respected leaders who were afraid to let others know they were sympathetic to Jesus and who seem to have stood by in silence as he was condemned to die. And he asked us ‘are you willing to stand up and speak out when you see something you know in your heart is wrong? Or do you silently acquiesce to the crowd?” Using our power to condemn an innocent! It is sad that by keeping our silence about the injustices in life, we collude with evil. Or, is the silence a way of protecting our own interests?
God of the oppressed! How long for us to open our mouth and proclaim justice for all!
“Entonces el sumo sacerdote se rasgó las ropas en señal de indignación, y dijo: —¿Qué necesidad tenemos de más testigos? Ustedes lo han oído decir palabras ofensivas contra Dios. ¿Qué les parece? Todos estuvieron de acuerdo en que era culpable y debía morir.”
Hamilton señaló que “José y Nicodemo eran lideres respetados que tenían miedo de que los demás supieran que simpatizaban con Jesús y que parece se detuviero en silencio mientras él estaba condenado a morir. Hamilton nos pregunta ‘¿estás dispuest@ a pararte y hablar cuando ves algo que sabes en su corazón está mal? ¿O es que en tu silencio te pones de acuerdo con la multitud?” Usando nuestro poder para condenar a un inocente! Es triste que al mantener nuestro silencio sobre las injusticias de la vida, nos hacemos complices con el mal. O bien, es el silencio una forma de proteger nuestros propios intereses?
Dios de los oprimidos! ¿Cuánto tiempo para que abramos nuestra boca y proclamemos la justicia para todos!
