The Anatomy of a Tertulia – a sacred conversation

“Come, let’s worship and bow down. Let’s kneel in front of the Lord, our maker, because he is our God and we are the people in his care, the flock that he leads. If only you would listen to him today!” (Psalm 95:6-7 GW)

Silence should be the beginning of any meaningful conversation. A meaningful conversation requires the understanding of trust, honesty, authenticity, transparency and willingness to listen. Listen to each other without judgment, without preconceived ideas, with a notion of sacredness. There is no need to utilize words or phrases to begin a sacred conversation, only a desire to unite in a silence of the mind and body, a meeting of our souls.

During the past year, First Church of Christ (www.whfirstchurch.org)and Manantial de Gracia (https://mdegucc.wordpress.com) have engaged in a sacred conversation to learn about each other. These encuentros, tertulias, conversations culminated in a unanimously vote from both congregational councils to approve a Covenant that begins with:

“We, First Church of Christ Congregational West Hartford and Manantial de Gracia, desire to enter into an intentional and relational covenant, supporting one another in our respective and joint ministries to grow together and learn from each other as we move forward to spread God’s love, peace, and justice in our communities and around the world.”
Rev Nanette Pitt, Acting Associate Pastor at FCC indicated that “Entering this intentional and covenanted relationship means that Manantial de Gracia has found a home at First Church for their activities and worship and most importantly, expresses the desire of both communities, as sister-UCC churches, to understand ourselves as part of one larger diverse, yet unified, faith family.”
Lord, we have come together, we have listen to each other, we have worship, we have bow down and kneel before you our Lord. Thank you for allowing us to be led by your Spirit. We will continue listening and talking. Amen!

La Anatomia de una “Tertulia” – una converación sagrada
Vengan, adoremos de rodillas; arrodillémonos delante del Señor, pues él nos hizo. Él es nuestro Dios, y nosotros su pueblo; somos ovejas de sus prados. Escuchen hoy lo que él nos dice. DHH

Silencio debería ser el principio de toda conversación importante. Una conversacion importante require que entendamos lo que es confiar, honestidad, autenticidad, transparencia y el deseo de escuchar. Escucharnos los unos a las otras sin juzgarnos, sin ideas preconcevidas, con la nocion de lo que es sagrado. No hay necesidad de utilizer palabras o frases para comenzar una conversacion sagrada; solo el deseo de unirons en un silencio de la mente y el cuerpo, un encuentro con nuestras almas.

Durante un año, First Church of Christ (www.whfirstchurch.org) y Manantial de Gracia (https://mdegucc.wordpress.com) han mantenido una conversación sagrada para aprender acerca de cada uno. Estos encuentros, tertulias, conversaciones culminaron en un voto unanime de parte de los concilios de ambas congregaciones para aprobar un pacto que comienza con:

“Nosotr@s, First Church of Christ Congregational West Hartford y Manantial de Gracia, hemos decidido entrar en un pacto de relación intencional , apoyandonos uno al otro en nuestros ministerios respectivos y juntos, para crecer juntos y aprender el uno del otro a medida que nos movemos hacia adelante para expresar el amor de Dios, paz, y justicia en nuestras comunidades y alrededor del mundo.”
Rev Nanette Pitt, Acting Associate Pastor en FCC indicó que “Entrar en este pacto de relación intencional significa que Manantial de Gracia ha encontrado un hogar en First Church para sus actividades y su Celebración , y más importante, este pacto expresa el deseo de ambas comunidades, como Iglesias UCC hermanas, de entendernos como parte de una diversidad más grande, aun unidas, en una familia de fe.”
Comenzando el domingo 7 de septiembre de 2014, Manantial de Gracia se reunirá a las 11am en la capilla de First Church of Christ Congretational, 12 South Main Street, West Hartford.
Señor, nos hemos reunido, nos hemos escuchado, hemos compartido en Celebraciôn, nos hemos saludado unos a otras y nos hemos arrodillado ante tu presencia. Gracias por permitir que tu Espiritu nos guie. Nosotr@s continuaremos escuchandonos mientras hablamos. Amen!
