I ‘M UCC…I’M HISPANIC

The three A’s, Authenticity, Accountability and Actualization are words that are powerful and profound for they are representative of areas which we can embrace, affirm, and evaluate our ministries with and for the beloved community.
Let’s begin with authenticity. For me authenticity means bringing all that I am to the table. To express myself as a Puerto Rican woman that has gifts to offer the wider church. To express the uniqueness of the Caribbean rhythms and sounds that make our souls sing. To speak a language that is most familiar to our heart. Authenticity is being genuinely transparent in all aspects of our living. Having the freedom of authenticity builds trust; healthy relationships that honor and respect the beloved community.
The second word is accountability. Wow what a concept for us to adhere to! Accountability is vital to engage our beloved community. Accountability is what gives strength to the commitments we make and what makes relationships flourish. I believe God wants us to be accountable with one another because we need each other to survive and thrive in this world we live in. Accountability is powerful for the transformation of the beloved community we serve.
The third word is actualization which for me means to put faith into action. When we are involved in actualization of our faith we are actually living a life that reflects the love of Jesus. We are continually doing justice and practicing an extravagant welcome and radical hospitality. Actualization of our faith means that we can “walk humbly with our God, love mercy, and do justice”.
In conclusion, authenticity results in accountability which brings about the actualization of our faith as Hispanic/Latinos within the United Church of Christ. By celebrating, affirming, and embracing the image of God that makes us uniquely who we are. Amen!

Las tres palabras, Autenticidad, Responsabilidad, y Actualización son palabras poderosas y profundas. Porque ellas son representativas de las áreas que podemos abrazar, afirmar, y evaluar nuestros ministerios con y para la comunidad amada.
Comencemos con la autenticidad. Para mí autenticidad significa traer todo lo que soy a la mesa. Expresarme como mujer puertorriqueña que tiene dones para ofrecer a la iglesia en general. Expresar la singularidad de los ritmos y sonidos Caribeños que hacen nuestras almas cantar. Hablar un idioma que es más familiar a nuestros corazones. La autenticidad es ser realmente transparente en todos los aspectos de nuestra vida. Tener la libertad de ser autentico gana la confianza; honra las relaciones saludables y respeta a la comunidad amada.
La segunda palabra es la responsabilidad. ¡Qué concepto para que se adhieran a! La responsabilidad es vital para la participación en la comunidad amada. La responsabilidad es lo que da fuerza a los compromisos que hacemos y lo que hace que las relaciones florezcan. Yo creo que Dios quiere que tengamos la responsabilidad uno(a) con el (la) otro(a), porque nos necesitamos unos(as) a otros(as) para sobrevivir y prosperar en el mundo en que vivimos; la responsabilidad es poderosa para la transformación de la amada comunidad que servimos.
La tercera palabra es la actualización que para mí significa poner la fe en acción. Cuando estamos involucrados(as) en la actualización de nuestra fe en realidad estamos viviendo la vida que refleja el amor de Jesús. Continuamente estamos haciendo justicia y practicando una bienvenida extravagante y una hospitalidad radical. La actualización de nuestra fe nos permite “caminar humildemente con nuestro Dios, amar la misericordia, y hacer justicia”.
En conclusión, el ser autentico resulta en la necesidad de ser responsable que conlleva la actualización de nuestra fe, como los hispanos / latinos en la United Church of Christ. Al celebrar, afirmar y abarcar la imagen de Dios que nos hace únicamente lo que somos. ¡Amén!
